Workshops/Classes

These workshops and classes have been designed for beginning painters, early intermediate painters & those artists who haven’t picked up their brushes for years.  Participants will feel free to jump right in, knowing that the others in the group are at the same painting level.  The relaxed atmosphere of these workshops and classes creates an opportunity for the students to move forward in their drawing and painting skills with ease & excitement.  Mareth and her guest instructors love to teach and mentor others to move them toward all they are meant to be as artists.  After these workshops and classes, you will know you have learned some new skills that will be the underpinnings of your creative process.

Testimonials

"I found your classes to be excellent in instructing a loose method of mixing paint on the palette; use of brush (angle) and also the emphasis on and the importance of contour drawing, which I knew but had not used in some time. Your demos and the videos you showed were very instructive and helpful." -VG

"Mareth Warren's watercolor workshop was a wakeup call for me after having put my watercolors to rest over ten years ago. I had never done portraits before and suddenly, without much analysis, I was painting a remarkable likeness of a stranger in a photo. The spontaneity and depth of expression that I achieved can only be attributed to this remarkable instructor! Mareth's approach to teaching was a perfect complement to my learning style." -AH

"Mareth Warren's watercolor class was a great experience for me. Coming from a background of rather formal, realistic watercolor painting meant that I needed lots of encouragement to "loosen up" my style – a style I had wanted to change. Mareth understood that feeling in me, and others with that same need, and moved us skillfully and gracefully toward that end. She so easily shared with us her own knowledge and experience in painting. We observed her demos, we painted, we critiqued our own work and others' and we grew in accomplishment. In my experience, Mareth is a very fine and patient teacher." -SP-H

"The class experience was really good. I felt I was really on to a few breakthroughs, and it encouraged me to keep trying. I learned what kind of paint to use, and how to keep it fresh and moist, and that's resulted in some changes. The drawing techniques were very helpful. And you pointed the way to good subject matter, indoors and out." -SH

"Attending Mareth's classes have been so helpful to me because she is a natural instructor/teacher. Mareth's classes flow easily from the beginning stage of a painting to the final brush stroke in a logical, easy to grasp way. I have learned quite a bit about painting just from watching her." -LM

"I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the workshop. It was a great tool for launching into sketching, drawing and painting. It seems that even when you think you are 'seeing' things, there is still more to see. You have no idea how many times I 'talk' to you as I paint, wishing you were there to add guidance." -SJ

"Thanks again for the wonderful sketchbook workshop. I learned a lot, and am inspired to continue trying other materials besides pencil and watercolor. You are a great teacher. The way you broke the skills down into smaller steps was extremely helpful for me. I lack the discipline to do that when I am on my own." -SC
