These workshops and classes have been designed for beginning painters, early intermediate painters & those artists who haven’t picked up their brushes for years.  Participants will feel free to jump right in, knowing that the others in the group are at the same painting level.  The relaxed atmosphere of these workshops and classes creates an opportunity for the students to move forward in their drawing and painting skills with ease &excitement.  Mareth loves to teach and mentor others to fulfill all they are meant to be.  After these workshops and classes, you will know you have learned some new skills that will be the underpinnings of your creative process.  And you will have experienced painting with friends!

These workshops have been designed to reach beginning, intermediate and advanced painters.  Working in conjunction with The Center for Wooden Boats on scenic Lake Union, Mareth is fervently working to present outstanding artist/teachers to our northwest artists.  The Pacific Northwest has not always been on the “workshop circuit” of well-known artists even though many are open to teach here.  We also have gifted & talented artists in the Pacific Northwest that need to be given the opportunity to teach & share what they have learned and to mentor those who are eager to advance their drawing and painting skills.  The 2008 calendar is full of seasoned artists who are eager to be your next teacher!

Secrets of Painting Loose

Figure & Marine Landscape
Charles has long been considered a master of the medium of watercolor, and has written numerous books on the subject. His paintings are fresh and spontaneous, displaying his profound understanding of light and color and expert drawing ability.  His figures are beautifully rendered, in a direct and gestural manner that reveals his interest in painting the light as much as the person.

Hidden Beauty of Watercolor
Jack will teach basic elements of design and how to utilize these elements in developing a strong painting with pure watercolor application, creating real  "show stoppers". The importance of good design and perspective will add to the painting’s unique qualities. Technical mastery is important but mood is vital, so emphasis on capturing mood will be covered during the workshop. In addition, he will also explain how to choose subject matter which is common to experience but uncommon to expression.

Capturing Light, Color and Motion in Marine Landscapes
Steve returns to CWB to teach studio & en plein air pastel painting techniques with an emphasis on interpreting marine landscape elements (water, reflections, light and color) while making good choices about content and nurturing your own interpretation. Steve’s daily live demos are masterfully painted and well narrated. His infectious enthusiasm for teaching pastel keeps everyone at a high energy level . . . expect to come away from this workshop very motivated!

Painting Color and Light –  Boats and Reflections
